More than 100 volunteers will work together on a hands-on assembly-line style project, reaching their goal of 40,000 meals in less than 2 hours. The nutrient-dense, shelf-stable, protein-rich, and easy to prepare meals are formulated in collaboration with Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

“IES is honored to partner with the Outreach Program California to help package and send nutritious, high-protein meals to refugees displaced by the war in Ukraine. IES employees gathered their own money to donate $2,500, while IES matched the employee donations. In total, donating $5,000 to the Outreach Program California. Our employees are excited for the opportunity to contribute and help Ukraine. We have a team of volunteers ready to package thousands of meals.” – Kara Hertzog, President of IES

“With an estimated 4 million Ukrainians displaced by the conflict, the need for food in the region is increasing by the week. But we can help,” says Chris Romero, West Coast Regional Manager for The Outreach Program. “By bringing volunteers together to package these meals, we hope to inspire more volunteerism and provide a way for people in Southern California to positively impact what’s going on in Ukraine.”

Founded in the Midwest, The Outreach Program was the first to engineer the meal packaging process back in 2004 and has since helped volunteer groups across the country package and donate over 675 million meals to domestic and international feeding organizations. The Outreach Program, in partnership with donors and packaging associates across the US, has already packed and shipped more than 3.3 million meals into Ukraine’s neighboring countries for humanitarian relief.
