The American Staffing Association's Staffing Index rose to 96 in April. This means employment in the staffing industry increased by 3.32 percent year-over-year. The ASA Staffing Index gets reported nine days after each workweek. Recently, the trend has been for the staffing index to rise, culminating in the current rating of 96.

This news is good for those who are seeking jobs in the temporary services industry. Such workers might include recent graduates. Those who will be graduating this summer may find it helpful to know prospects for 2014 college grads are an improvement over past years, according to Staffing Industry Analysts. In a recent survey by Korn/Ferry International, 67 percent of respondents said job prospects are better for the seniors of 2014 than for those of a year ago. Over half, or 56 percent, said prospects are better than three years ago.

"An education determines a worker's earnings for life. Increasingly the value of today's graduate degree is the equivalent of yesterday's undergraduate degree," said Korn Ferry CEO Gary Burnison.

A great way to begin a life in the workforce is to become a temp worker. Temporary workers can try out a position before they commit to it with a full contract, allowing them to see what kind of jobs they like before becoming full hires at a company.
