Staffing industry continues to thrive

Staffing employment has gone up 1.74 percent since last month, according to the most recent American Staffing Agency Staffing Index Monthly Report.

The index for February is 91, which indicates staffing employment has decreased slightly, by 0.54 percent over the last 30 days.

These numbers are in keeping with recent predictions by Staffing Industry. Experts there predict the market for temporary workers will grow at a compounded annual rate of 4.6 percent between this year and 2022, according to a recent report. The forecasters believe that companies will continue shifting away from independent contractors because of stricter enforcement of employee/contractor misclassification laws. Additionally, the researchers predict that temp workers will continue to be adopted in professional occupations such as healthcare, as well as industrial occupations like construction.

Contract workers in the future will be used for more highly skilled positions, according to Staffing Industry. In addition to health care, educational services and business services will also show an expanded market for temps.

Overall, the trend for staffing is positive, according to the report. The industry is growing not only in terms of size but also in its share of the labor market. Thus, those who want to hire temporary workers will continue to have access to a healthy supply.
