The healthcare industry continues to see increases in employment this year, with 31,000 new jobs recorded in October, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
While the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed people, 7.9 percent and 12.3 million respectively, remained essentially unchanged from previous months, healthcare payrolling added more than 25,000 jobs in ambulatory services and more than 6,000 jobs in hospitals nationally.
Workforce magazine states physician offices also saw an increase in hiring, with 11,200 jobs added last month, bringing the total of jobs added in the last year to 68,300 and representing a gain of 2.9 percent. Healthcare is relying heavily on its HR services as employment in the industry has risen by 296,000 this past year, according to the BLS Employment Situation Summary.
Meanwhile, not all industries saw such important growth. While the leisure and hospitality industry added 28,000 jobs, employment in construction rose very modestly and mining lost 9,000 jobs in October, bringing the industry's job loss number to 17,000 this year.
