Temporary holiday work may still be available

Posted on December 6th, 2013 Read time: 1 minutes

People looking to be temporary workers for the holidays may not be too late. According to a CareerBuilder survey conducted before the holiday season began, 10 percent of hiring managers will still be looking to hire for seasonal positions in December.

Older workers in particular may be well-served by seeking these opportunities. Some 17 percent of seasonal hiring managers seek out retirees, and an additional 34 percent are looking to hire experienced workers who are not retired.

Seasonal jobs can run the gamut from retail – what most people think of when they hear temporary jobs – to financial services and everything in between. While employers may be adding fewer staff members to their ranks because of low consumer confidence, they are still hiring holiday help.

There are other concurrent opportunities. For example, as tax season draws near, many tax preparation firms are hiring extra help or customer service representatives.

Temporary positions can represent a great source of supplementary work for employees of all ages. The proliferation of vacancies around the holidays is not yet exhausted, and savvy workers can apply to positions that remain open well into December.
