Telephone interviews of 500 executives in the marketing and advertising industry revealed a positive hiring trend for the sector, according to Direct Marketing News.

Los Angeles-based staffing firm The Creative Group conducted the survey in April for its Hiring Index for Marketing and Advertising Professionals. The results showed that 22 percent of employers plan to add staff in the third quarter of 2011, an increase of 10 percent over the second quarter.

"These results show there's a very optimistic feeling about hiring in marketing and advertising," Donna Farrugia, executive director of The Creative Group, tells the news source.

While the Bureau of Labor Statistics' May employment report reveals "little change" in the private sector, Farrugia counters that advertising and marketing specialists are considered professional level.

The study notes that professionals who specialize in web design and production are in the highest demand, with 16 percent of respondents reporting interest in hiring. Brand and product management skills are also highly soft after, with projected 14 percent hire rate in the third quarter.
