As the end of the year quickly approaches, many companies are dealing with last minute PTO requests and vacation day carryovers into 2013. As of the end of November, three in four American workers had not yet taken all vacation days allotted to them, according to a recent study by Adecco Staffing US.

To avoid watching productivity suffer and losing time calculating PTO, businesses should consider outsourcing HR administration so employers can devote their attention where it's most need.

Adecco surveyed more than 200 full-time workers during the last week of November. While more than one-third of workers receive three or more weeks off per year and the majority had yet to use all their days off, 44 percent would be happy to receive one or two additional weeks.

The workforce management software provider suggests many U.S. workers may be having trouble achieving a happy medium between their professional responsibilities and their personal lives.

Meanwhile, a separate study by the Workforce Institute revealed more employees are taking time off on Christmas and New Years eve. Because last minute time-off requests can be stressful, HR services providers can help businesses develop a system to avoid losing work days when employees aren't in the office.
