June is National Safety Month for Temporary Employees Too!

Posted on June 19th, 2016 Read time: 2 minutes

The National Safety Council has published that almost 13,000 American workers are injured every day on the job.  It gets worse.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics published their study this spring regarding workplace injuries resulting in deaths in 2014 and for the first time since 2010, that number rose from years prior to 4821 people, that’s 13 per day.  If you’d like to learn more about these statistics click here: http://www.bls.gov/iif/cfoi_revised14_table.htm.

In celebration of National Safety Month, we thought it would be timely to communicate to our clients about our safety program.  After all, employee safety is one of our core values!  We’ve done many things over the years to create a culture of safety including:

  1. We have an in-house safety and workers compensation specialist Wanda Mora, ready to help our employees and clients with questions regarding safety. She is POSH certified and has over 20 years of experience helping our clients and employees nationwide.
  2. We are members of the National Safety Council. Check them out at nsc.org.
  3. We’ve partnered with Zurich Insurance as our Risk Management Consultant, providing us with guidance on how to maintain good safety practices. Zurich Insurance conducts audit of these practices each year as we continue to work toward an injury free workplace.
  4. In 2013, OSHA and our industry association, the American Staffing Association, joined forces to create the Temporary Worker Initiative (TWI), an initiative to provide guidance to companies and staffing firms as to the responsibility of each party related to employee safety. We’ve communicated their bulletins to our clients and we’ve taken steps to implement new procedures.  For more information on TWI visit https://www.osha.gov/temp_workers/index.html

This year we are proud to announce two new additions to our program.

  1. Online safety training – Beginning in June, employees will have access to general safety training. This training is perfect to provide some basic safety tips to new hires as they are onboarded onto our payroll.  This training is not to replace any worksite training by our clients, but meant to supplement it.  You can view these videos at streamingsafety.com.  The user name is innovative and the password is safety2016.
  2. 24/7 Nurse Triage Call Center – Available beginning June 6, 2016, if an IES employee is injured on the job and it’s not an emergency, please direct them to 1-800-775-5866. Employees will have immediate access to a registered nurse to determine the best treatment options.  If seeking medical care is necessary, the nurse will direct them to the nearest clinic for treatment.

It’s important for companies to embrace safety as a good business practice, not only do employees deserve to go home safely at the end of their day, culturally and financially an organization benefits from making safety a priority.

If you have any questions regarding our safety program, please call Innovative at 858-715-5100.
