Diversity staffing firms have a competitive edge

Women-and minority-owned (WMBE) staffing agencies are making headway in increasing their visibility amongst staffing buyers, according to Staffing Industry Analysts.

The news source notes that of the 44 staffing firms on Staffing Industry Analysts' 2010 list of fastest-growing staffing firms, more than half were also on the 2010 list of diversity staffing firms.

"Although we don't see particular interest in diversity staffing firms widening, about half of buyers have been and continue to be serious about giving diversity staffing firms an edge," Jon Osborne, vice president of research at Staffing Industry Analysts, tells the media outlet. "Large buyers and those in more technologically oriented industries seem to be the most interested."

To reiterate that point, an SIA survey of buyers found that companies with 10,000 or more employees tended to be more interested in increasing their use of WMBE staffing suppliers than smaller companies, the media outlet explains.

Finance and Commerce reports that from 1997-2011, the number of women-owned businesses in the U.S. increased by 50 percent. One of those businesses is Minnesota-based staffing agency True Talent Group. The firm's president, Stacey Stratton, recently told the news source that her company is on track to hit $1 million in sales in 2011.
