According to a recent report from IT staffing and recruitment firm Modis, Orlando, Florida, is projected to be the third best city in the U.S. and Canada for finding a full-time, part-time or temporary worker IT jobs, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Orlando ranks behind Toronto (No. 2) and Houston (No. 1), and made its rapid ascent due to the success of its recently completed medical city.
According to its website, Lake Nona Medical City is a health and life sciences cluster that houses hospitals, universities, research institutions and life sciences companies. Schools include the University of Central Florida Health Sciences Campus and the University of Florida Academic & Research Center. Furthermore, the Nemours Children's Hospital, VA Medical Center and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute
are also located there.
In addition to the 10,000 new jobs added by the medical city, Florida also consolidated its financial services IT jobs to the Orlando area, and has seen an increased demand for simulated training, the Sentinel notes.
San Francisco and Minneapolis rounded out the top five.
