Summer Interns Are Great for Business
While many companies are trimming summer hiring, some employers still have internship programs or simply need a summer employee to fill in gaps such as those created by layoffs or summer vacations. An intern is a potential future employee for employers. However, at the completion of an internship, interns are trained and experienced potential employees. While companies are under no obligation to hire interns for full time positions employers often find that interns are capable, trained, and ready for full time employment at the conclusion of internships.
The market for interns is great and employers can have their pick of the most talented high school or college students who are eager to get involved in the working world. There are many different tasks that interns are capable of doing and often times their potential is highly underrated. Many interns come into a company with great ideas, get excited working with the different people thus creating a very synergistic relationship. When placed in a new environment, they get a lot of stimulation that can lead to great and exciting things. It's also a great opportunity for them to meet professionals in their field to gain a new perspective, and to learn more about what the company and field is like.
Often times employers worry about adding on these non-core employees onto their payroll. There are many options available to employers that make this process easy. One such option would be to outsource these employees to a third party company. This way your company's administrative process are not disrupted and you get a high quality individual that will help you grow your business.
Most internships are employer-paid opportunities, generally six-to-eight weeks in duration, and the employer determines the pay rate, the hours to be worked, and the skill requirements. This is a tremendous win-win opportunity for employers. You benefit by reducing any recruiting costs for short-term staffing while making a difference in the lives of young people by helping them set goals and make education and career decisions.
